Home Theatre Spring Cleaning

Spring is the time when a lot of people perform a general clean to their homes. A lot of attention is paid to certain accessories and additions like carpets, curtains, hard-to-reach places and outdoor areas.

If you have a home theatre system, spring is just the time for a clean of the machine. It will rid you of dust and dirt that have accumulated during the winter season when you didn’t have a chance to air the room. It will also make your viewing pleasure better since the screen is going to be brighter and dust-free. No more grainy pictures.

Clean

So what do you have to do to spring clean your home theatre? Just follow the instructions below.

How to Clean: DVD Players

What to do

  • Before you start cleaning, be sure to unplug the device.
  • Dust all vent holes.
  • Side panels can be cleaned with a clean dry cloth.
  • Lens found inside the player can be cleaned with a disk cleaner.
  • Some areas can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip.
  • To remove fingerprints dampen the cloth a little. Just be sure it is not soaking.

What not to do

  • Don’t use abrasive or harsh cleaning materials.
  • Paper towels are not a good idea for cleaning gentle surfaces like receivers and players.

How to Clean: Projectors and Screens

What to do

  • You can clean the projector using a little lens cleaning fluid and a cleaning brush. Be gentle on the surface.
  • The products you use should be nonabrasive.
  • The ventilation grilles can be wiped with a lint-free cloth, dampened with detergent. When you do that, wipe the grilles once again using a clean, dry cloth this time.
  • Your projector needs to be cleaned every three months if it is exposed to dust on a regular basis.
  • The projector housing: a dab of mild detergent and a soft cloth will get the job done just perfect.
  • Always make sure you dry the surface after you wipe it with a wet cloth. Wipe in one direction.

What not to do

  • Don’t use abrasive products to clean the system.
  • When you clean the screen of the projector, don’t use circular motions.
  • Never touch the lens with your fingers.
  • No plastic or rubber materials should get in contact with the projector.
  • Be gentle on the lense when cleaning and touching it. Never apply pressure on it. It is very sensitive.
  • Never clean a projector using flammable solvents.

How to Clean: Speaker Systems

What to do

  • Clean the grilles using a vacuum cleaner. Be careful while you are removing them. Gently pull them forward.
  • Remove dust from the speakers, paying special attention to small parts.
  • Use a soft bristle paintbrush to clean the driver.
  • Cabinets can be wiped with a lint-free cloth, dampened with water.

What not to do

  • Never clean speakers with vinegar or salt water.
  • Don’t use chemicals or cleaning agents to clean the speakers.
  • Don’t let water reach the tweeter domes or driver cones.

How to Clean: HDMI Connectors and Cables

What to do

  • Just remove dust from the cables using a clean, dry cloth or a sponge.
  • Make sure you keep cables organised.

What not to do

  • Never wet the cables.
  • Try not to twist the cables while you are cleaning them. This may result in malfunction of the system.
