The Essentials For The Perfect Home Theater

Home Theater

For the movie fan, the sure cure for the annoyances of going to the theaters, like high ticket prices and annoying guests, is to have a theater set up in your very own home. In order to do so, you’ll have to be prepared to spend a little money to assure that you are getting the highest-available technology for everything from your high definition television to your surround sound system, to even your choice of an HDMI cable.

An HD Television

The cornerstone of any home theater system is absolutely the television that you plan on featuring.  Televisions come in a bunch of different flavors and sizes and one of the major decisions you’ll have to make is whether you want a plasma screen or an LCD television to be the centerpiece of your home theater.  It’s also important to make sure the television has the correct amount of outputs that you will need to hook up all of your devices.

Surround Sound System

Sound quality in a home theater setting sometimes gets overlooked with non-audiophiles, but it is an essential component to get the best experience possible.  While most televisions are equipped with speakers that are serviceable, none offer the surround sound quality that allows you to become completely immersed in a movie, and with blockbusters like The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises designed to fully take advantage of surround sound, you’ll want to be able to get the full viewing experience.

Blu-ray Player

Probably the second most important feature will be the Blu-ray player.  If you plan on watching a lot of movies, a Blu-ray player is essential to your home theater; standard DVDs will simply not do your theater justice and will basically make all of your other efforts pointless.  Make sure you set up your Blu-ray player to connect to your HD television via an HDMI cable as well.  This assures that you are accessing the highest available resolution on your system.

Theater Seating

home theaterIf you’re planning on spending quite a bit of time in your home theater, you’ll want to assure that you’re going to be comfortable.  To achieve the true theater experience, you’ll want to get some theater seating.  Theater chairs have gotten more comfortable over the past few years, with options that include reclining, head rests, and stadium seating design in order to give you the best ways to see the movie.

Blackout/Sound-Proof Curtains

The film-going experience is all about being immersed into the film you’re watching, but it’s hard to do that when you’re being distracted by outside noise or by glare coming across the screen.  If you have the option, it’s best to assure that you’re home theater is constructed in a room without windows.  Obviously, sometimes that just can’t be done, so if you have a troublesome window, invest in some blackout curtains that can prevent any light from coming in and ruining your experience.  Also make sure that the room is soundproof.  Movie theaters use special soundproof curtains to dull the sound that escapes neighboring rooms, so look to see if you can equip your home theater with the same design feature.

Once you’ve got your home theater completely set up, you may never want to go to your local cinema again.  If your friends catch wind of the set up you have going on, however, you may need to start charging admission!

  1. My wife and I want to put a home theater in our basement. We have been debating on whether to get a flatscreen or projector. I know the 4K TV’s have a beautiful picture and the latest technology. My friend was telling me that they have 4K projectors as well. I will have to look into those.

  2. I love to watch a great movie on a big screen with a surround sound system speakers. I’m planning to upgrade my living room as a movie night theater and to have some fun with my friends. But I’ll do all the coverings with whatever the space and budget I have. Thanks for the great post, it’s really useful for me.
