7 Simple Ways To Fix Blinking Blue Light On Verizon Router

If you’re having problems with your Verizon router, one possible issue could be the blinking blue light. This light is usually a sign that the router is starting up, or it’s ready to work.

However, if it’s constantly blinking, it can be frustrating and indicates a problem with your device.

What Does Blinking Blue Light Mean on Verizon Router?

The blue light on your Verizon router is called the “power” light. It’s one of several lights on the front of the router that indicate different things.

A solid blue light means that the power is on, your router has connected to other devices successfully,  and everything is working properly.

A blinking blue light usually indicates that the router is trying to establish the connection. You can often see it if the WPS button is pressed.

In other words, it indicates that your router is in pairing mode.

However, if the light is constantly blinking, it usually means there’s a problem establishing the connection with other devices.

Why Is Your Verizon Router Blinking Blue?

There are a few reasons why your Verizon router might have a blinking blue light.

This issue often occurs because of the insufficient signal strength. If it’s the first time you are setting up the router and this issue occurs, try moving it around and see if the signal improves.

One possibility is that the router is overheating. This can happen if the router is placed in an enclosed space or if it’s been running for a long time.

Another possibility is that there’s a problem with the firmware, and it might need updating.

You also need to inspect all the cables leading to the router’s module, since they can also be our troublemakers.

  4. Turn the router back on, make sure you reconnect the backup battery if there is one.
  5. Wait for the router to boot up.
  6. The white light will indicate that there is a connection and everything is working correctly.

2. Power Cycle The Router

This method is similar to a regular router rebooting, yet it will also help get rid of any residual electricity stored in the router.

The router will cold boot itself when you power it back on, and the chances of it working properly increase exponentially.

  1. Turn off your router by pressing its power button.
  2. Wait for 10 seconds.
  3. Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait for 10 seconds.
  5. Unplug the other end of the power cable from the router.
  6. Wait for 3-5 minutes.
  7. Plug the power cable back into the router first.
  8. Plug the other side of the power cable into the wall outlet.

After all the steps are complete, turn on your router, give it a few minutes to establish the connection, and see if the blue light flashing is gone.

3. Restart With The Power Button

This way is the third variation of rebooting, so let’s try that next if the previous steps didn’t make much of a difference.

  1. Press and hold the power button on your router for 30 seconds.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter from the router, wait for 30 seconds.
  3. Plug the power adapter back in and hold the power button for 30 seconds again.

That should almost certainly fix the issue, if just rebooting did not help. If it didn’t, don’t worry, we have a few more tricks for you to try.

4. Check For Overheating

Overheating can cause all sorts of problems for your router, including a blinking blue light.

If you think that can be the case, simply unplug your router from the power source, and wait for about 5 minutes for it to cool down.

Then turn it back on and see if the issue persists.

To prevent overheating:

  • Make sure there is no dust and dirt on the router or around it.
  • Do not place anything on top of the router.
  • Make sure there is adequate ventilation around the router.
  • Do not put the router in a closed cabinet or enclosed space.
  • Keep the router away from heat sources like radiators, stoves, and microwaves.

If there is no issue with the overheating, the next step is to check the router’s firmware.

5. Disconnect/Reconnect The Cables

Sometimes the cables plugged into your router can come loose or get dirty or dusty.

To check the cables:

  1. Disconnect all cables, check if they are damaged or dirty.
  2. Blow inside the ports of the router to get rid of any dust.
  3. Clean or replace the cables if necessary.
  4. Place them back in gently, then turn on your router and see if the connection is back.

If you have a spare Ethernet, Coaxial or power cable at home, you can try swapping them and see if that helps get rid of the red globe issue.

You can even try borrowing it from a friend or a neighbor to test the theory out.

It is possible that your router is blinking blue because of the damaged or burnt cable.

Tip: Try using a different wall outlet. If you are using a surge protector, plug your router directly into the wall outlet.

7. Factory Reset Your Router

If you’ve tried all of the above, and you can’t seem to get rid of that blinking blue light on your Verizon router, the last step is to reset the router to its factory settings.

This will erase all of your custom settings, so be sure to back up any important data before proceeding.

We will give you 2 ways of how to do it.
